Summer learning experiences for children with special needs

The Detroit Institute for Children is proud to present SLIDE, Summer Learning Individualized Developmental Experiences, our summer learning program for children with special needs. SLIDE will give children with special needs an opportunity to receive crucial therapies and prevent learning loss over the summer months.

We have two program locations. In Detroit, this program will be provided at NO COST to families. Our Metro East program is offered in partnership with The Arc — Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods as an enhancement to their program. There is a cost associated with this program. Please refer to each program’s flyer for further details.

To qualify, a child must be 5-12 years old as of July 10 and have an IEP through their school. The primary therapies being delivered will be speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and special education.

We need volunteers! Anyone 18 or older can volunteer with these programs, and it is a great opportunity especially for students studying disciplines related to education, therapy and special needs. Please refer to our volunteer flyer for further details.
